AWOGA UK seeks to enhance the learning experience of the pupils to ensure that the School maintains its reputation built over the years.
Fellow AWOGANS, family, friends and supporters, I greet you all in the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Our beloved school, the Annie Walsh Memorial School was founded on the principles of Christian ethos and values.
Welcome to our website which will be a one stop platform for you all to read about the exciting projects, development plans, events and related news about our beloved school in Sierra Leone.
The past two years have been challenging due to the global pandemic but AWOGA UK continued to embark on various fundraising initiatives during the lockdown in order to continue to raise funds for the school. In 2020/21, we successfully raised just over £30k in our Inter-House competition.
In March 2021 we held our annual Thanksgiving Service virtually and attendance reached unprecedented levels. Later that year our Africana Gala Night event was a tremendous success with well over three hundred guests. All of these monies raised through our philanthropic work and the generous support from our well-wishers and supporters have helped us tremendously in ensuring that the girls’ study in an environment which is conducive to learning.
AWOGA UK has funded a number of projects over the years – please follow this link to read more about them (Previous Projects)
There is still lots more work to be done (Current Projects) especially on the main administrative building which, dates as far back as 1865.
This project, named the 2Rs, is being led by AWOGA USA but we are appealing to all ex-pupils of the school to help and support financially in whatever way possible. In the words of John Bunyan and I quote –

I hope and pray that we all continue to work hard for these under privileged girls at our Alma Mater. All of our efforts are geared towards improving education at our school. Talking about education as Barack Obama puts it and I quote –

Finally, I would like to sign off this message by saying a huge thank you to all our current members, supporters, family and friends who have journeyed with us over the years.
On behalf of all the members of AWOGA UK, I thank you most sincerely from the bottom of my heart.
Long live AWOGA UK
Long live the AWMS

March 2024
This year, 2024, holds special significance for our esteemed institution, the Annie Walsh Memorial School, established in 1849, and for all AWOGANs worldwide. We joyously commemorate 175 years of excellence since the founding of our beloved school and 40 years since the establishment of AWOGA UK. Our hearts are filled with gratitude as we give praise and glory to God for the achievements and milestones that make us proud.
As an organization, we eagerly anticipate the years ahead, confident in our ability to continue leading. We extend heartfelt appreciation to all our donors, supporters, and well-wishers who have accompanied us on this remarkable 40-year journey. AWOGA UK has played a pivotal role in providing essential funds for the School's development.
Aligned with 21st-century educational standards, we remain committed to making a positive impact in our country and the diaspora. Recognizing the crucial role of education in young people's lives, we have collaborated with AWOGANs globally on various projects for the past four decades.
One notable initiative includes AWOGA UK's longstanding scholarship program, benefiting numerous underprivileged children annually.
In response to the government's emphasis on ICT in secondary education in Sierra Leone, we joined forces with the Sierra Leone Grammar School Old Boys Association (SLGS OBA) in the UK. Through a ground-breaking collaboration, we organised the inaugural AnnieGramms event in June 2023. Proceeds from this event funded a STEM ICT Holiday Club in August 2023, benefiting 100 participants from AWMS, SLGS, and other secondary schools. Co-founded by AWOGA UK and SLGS OBA, this initiative marked the initiation of a new era in digital learning across the country.
In our 175th year, we aim to modernize and enhance the existing computer lab at the School. Extensive feasibility studies have been conducted, and plans have been designed to bring our ICT facilities in line with contemporary standards, empowering our girls for the challenges of tomorrow. We firmly believe that nurturing a digitally literate generation with world-class ICT abilities will have a lasting impact on their development and contribute significantly to the country's economic growth.
Three cheers to AWMS and Bravo AWOGA UK.
