Fundraising over the past two years, changed drastically. The sudden onset of the pandemic was a catalyst for many charities and fundraising strategies had to change or adapt to this new norm. As a result, AWOGA UK set up a Fundraising Committee which met to explore how best the Association could embrace the change and utilize/switch to digital solutions.
With the help of some daring and fun-loving suggestions from members, AWOGATHON was born. Although the team were a little sceptical to begin with, it was essential to keep engaging with our supporters and to diversify the income streams of the association. The determination of what became the ‘AWOGA Quartet’ paid off.
Over the years AWOGAns had come to the realization that fundraising linked to our various House Colours raised the most funds and was the best way to ensure our senior members and the younger generation were all on board to share in this fun but diverse way of raising funds.
This was essential to not only keeping engaged with supporters, but to diversify income streams. According to the Enthuse Charity Pulse Winter 2021 report, 38% of charities saw their income dented or experienced high levels of volatility.
This fundraiser proved to be a huge success. During this challenge each competing House member was sponsored to do a minimum of 5000 steps each day for a three month period. Being very competitive you can imagine how much fun this was with each House vying to win.
In November 2021 we hosted a very successful Africana Gala Night at which there were 320 guests. We hope to host another face to face event this year – please look out for details of our luncheon sale which will be held in June.
Various events and fundraising activities are organised during the year with our annual Thanksgiving Service held on the third Sunday in March, our luncheon sale in June and a Dinner/Buffet dance in November. Our annual Thanksgiving Service this year will be held on Sunday, 20th March 2022 at 3pm via Zoom. Arrangements had already progressed for this to be held virtually before the government lifted the restrictions. Please find login details below.
